PEOPLE TO PEOPLE:
Young People Making a Difference as Student Ambassadors

Gail with young students in Japan

Congratulations to this year's People to People Student Ambassadors! It is always a joy for me to be a part of People to People. Together we will travel on the European Heritage journey to Belguim, England, France, Germany, Netherlands, and Switzerland. People to People provides educational and cultural experiences promoting world peace through communication, involvement and understanding.

Special Congratulations to
Mary Jean Eisenhower!

For the first time ever, the prestigious Cavaliere per las Pace (Knight of Peace) award was presented to an organization rather than an individual. Mary Jean Eisenhower accepted the esteemed award last summer in Assisi, Italy. Mother Teresa, Mikhail Gorbachev and Pope John Paul II are previous recipients of the Knight of Peace award, considered one of the most important titles for the curriculum vitae of the Nobel Prize.

Since the founding by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, eight U.S. presidents have served as honorary chairman of People to People International. People to People makes an impact in the world through domestic and international travel as well as continuing President Eisenhower's vision of world citizenship.

THE PEACE RUG: A PLACE FOR KIDS TO START PEACE...

I first met Dr. Helen McIntosh when we both presented at The Glasser Quality School Consortium International Conference. Her invention, The Peace Rug, teaches children how to solve teasing and bullying. The rugs now lie in classrooms across America as well as Canada.

Helen wrote Eric, Jose & The Peace Rug, that teaches children the same skills and helps with reading, too! Helen has done research on teasing and bullying and The Peace Rug works! She is a Certified Reality Therapist as well as a counseling psychologist. Her hope is that children will learn at a young age how to resolve conflicts before matters get out of hand. www.peacerug.com

It is exciting when I am a guest on Dianne Linderman's live radio show. She inspires me with her dedication to children and her many projects. I love her quote about children today, "Let's plant their feet in fertile soil and let them blossom with self-respect, confidence, industry, and fun." Dianne and I presented together at a California state conference. Our workshop was entitled, Build A Resume~Develop the Positive~Become Entrepreneurial.

Dallas Woodburn is a young woman to keep your eyes on!
She has a zest for knowledge and the written language. I connected with her when I observed her passion for writing and for reaching children to help make a difference.
